Dr. Liron Shani

Dr. Liron Shani is an anthropologist who focuses on understanding how different groups interpret nature, how they use their interpretations for political ends, and how their actions affect society and environment. His interests areas are: the anthropology of environment, science and agriculture; human-nonhuman relations; rural area studies and the Impact of the Information Age on the Environment and Society.

liron holds a bachelor's degree in political science and sociology and anthropology and a master's degree in anthropology, both from the Hebrew University. His doctoral dissertation from the Tel Aviv  University, dealing with tensions between the environment and agriculture in Arava region,  was awarded the Glacman Award by the Israeli Anthropological Association. During his postdoctoral studies, Liron was Hosted and taught at Brandeis University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).


In addition, Liron is the founder and operator of the ‘behevrat haadam website (בחברת האדם) on anthropology in Israel and in the world, and of the project's page, which has more than 7000 followers.
